This talk introduces one of the most exciting areas in contemporary cognitive science – the interdisciplinary study of emotions and other affective states. In what is now know known as affective science, emotions and other affective states are treated as multidimensional states that can be studied with a wide range of tools, from behavioral neuroscience and functional neuroimaging to gene-editing technologies. I will introduce some of the key theoretical constructs and techniques before showing how the affective scientist’s toolkit can be applied to illuminate fear.
